In the month of April, Caricature Japan will be holding a group exhibit at Yokohama's Red Brick Warehouse from the 7th through the 12th.

４月７日～４月１２日迄横浜の赤レンガ倉庫で、カリカチュアジャパン初のグループ展「Caricature Japaning」が開催されます。

Aquarium Picturebook 水族館の絵本

This last month I have completed more pages to add to the picture book I made for our customers at the Enoshima aquarium to enjoy. This is one of my favorites, the manta.

新江ノ島水族館のブースに来てくださるお客様に楽しんでいただくために、
以前、手作りの絵本を作成したのですが、この一カ月の間に、
いくらかページを足しました。これはその中でも、お気に入りの一枚です。
ご覧のとおり、エイです。

David Bowie Changes

Recently I made a drawing showing the changes of British singer David Bowie. He has been making music since 1969 and has sold an estimated 136 million albums worldwide. His stage persona and appearance has went through many changes over the years.

This is a quick portrait style sketch I made for practice...

I also studied the works of illustrator Ralph Steadman. These are a few study sketches I made of his work...

My finished work shows three different stages of David Bowie's career... His Ziggy Stardust era, his role from the movie Labyrynth and his style from Let's Dance. I worked in pen and ink only and the drawing seems to have taken on the feeling of one of my favorite artists Al Hirschfeld...

NCN Japan Mini Convention

On February 17th I attended the National Caricature Network Mini Convention at the Asakusa View Hotel.

Many artists came from all over Japan, Asia and the world to have fun drawing and compete against other artists. There were competitions for speed, likeness, best technique, etc.

I attended seminars from Golden Nosey award winning artists Court Jones and Kage Nakanishi. There were even television crews to get news stories. Here is a video crew interviewing Court Jones...

SHEENA AND THE ROKKETS

My latest studio artwork is of the Japanese rock band Sheena and the Rokkets featuring guitarist Makoto Ayukawa (鮎川誠).

Their music is a very unique mix of American clasic rock and Japanese vocal stylings.


I wanted to make a drawing to reflect the uniqueness of their preformance and live aspect.

Birthday

It was my birthday on the 22nd, my wife and I went out to for a movie and dinner to celebrate. We went to the Dynaciy shopping center in Odawara. The movie we saw was Hell Boy 2, The Golden Army. It was very entertaining. Later we had supper at an Italian restraunt (にんにく屋）.

The very next day at work, I drew a little boy who just had his birthday on the 23rd. He wanted to be drawn with a sea turtle. As you can see, we had a lot of fun playing with Doraemon and Dorami!
